My parents took the news about as well as could be expected.  It was a good thing they were both already sitting down because I was damned sure that my mom came extremely close to fainting.  Like, I'm talking a hair away kind of thing.  Even Lester, my brother, went white with shock - proving that, despite all our bickering and saying we hated each other, he truly did care for me.  The silence which followed my news was deafening.

"Someone say something." I whispered, trying so very hard to keep my voice steady.  Furthering my astonishment at just his reaction, Lester found his voice before either of our parents.

"Is there anything they can do?  There has to be some kind of treatment by now, doesn't there?" He had this helpless expression on his face tha...
