Chapter 19

Speckarin aroused the others shortly after daybreak, and they sat up, leaving dreams behind, to face reality. Blinking, they looked at the old magician. He spoke solemnly. “There has been no sign of Gilin. However, I have a plan. Arise and gather food. I will explain it while we eat.”

    Again the ravens cawed loudly, and everyone listened for a reply, but heard nothing.

    Diliani dispatched the ilon to locate food for themselves. Hut and Talli entered the damp woods to find breakfast for the kirins. With the youngsters occupied, Speckarin discussed his ideas with Diliani, and she concurred. Not wanting to risk disagreement, however, he didn’t mention the first step he wanted to take. When Hut and Talli returned, all sat near the fire.
