At a considerable altitude, the five kirins flew eastward in formation, Talli in the lead, blonde hair flowing. Of the two with the knowledge, she was the one they could see. Speckarin was behind and to her right, Gilin to her left. Diliani flew behind Gilin to keep his raven in sight, and Hut filled out the “V” formation behind Speckarin.
Flying steadily throughout the sunny morning, they could have conversed from the backs of their ilon, but said little, deeply into thoughts and emotions of their own, which ranged from melancholy to fear to exhilaration. The only one who spoke with any frequency was Gilin, calamar in hand, giving instructions to Talli.
