At the edge of the gathering platform, among the startled animals and birds encircling the meeting, Speckarin and Duan were in heated discussion.

    Earlier that evening, at Speckarin’s request, messengers had left Rogalinon and sped on ilon to Rogustin, the Mogers’ home tree. The messengers requested that their neighbors come to the Yorl tree for a meeting of the two clans, though it was approaching midnight and the meeting’s purpose wasn’t disclosed. Duan, the Moger magician, and his clansmen responded without hesitation. The entire clan, save sentries, arrived on Rogalinon.
