With the dawn’s first light, Gilin nudged Hut. “We must move on,” said Gilin.
Sitting up next to Stala, for the second time Hut rubbed sleep from his eyes. He looked down from the tree hole onto a section of the forest he’d never seen, and the night’s events came back to him: stealing from his home, fleeing the appalling gronom, riding Stala under the moon and stars.
While speaking to his cousin, Gilin became aware of the polished object in his belt satchel. It’s not as if I don’t know where it is, he thought. The calamar. I used it during last night’s journey.
