Descending the stairs, he headed into the woods as fast as his troublesome leg would carry him. When he arrived he saw the bandaging on the ground, then the ravens circling in the treetops. Astounded that Loana could fly, he smiled as he thought of what Ruggum had told him in the boat. The old kirin was excited because their friends had contacted them, and a healing spell was transmitted to Loana, though he was hardly certain it would work. Well, it must have worked, thought the old man, though the concept was beyond his comprehension.

    He raised a hand to wave, but it was too late. Heading east, the birds disappeared from sight.

    “Go, Gilin! Go, Ruggum!” was Nathan’s cry to the heavens. “Don’t stop for anything!”
