Chapter 32
Cautiously putting his head out of the hole, Ruggum looked around and saw nothing. “I must examine Loana in the light,” he whispered. “I can do nothing for her until I know what injuries she has.” He said a word and Alsinam reacted quickly, gladly departing the enclosure.
Loana was suffering more than ever, and was slow to respond to Ruggum’s commands. But she struggled to her feet, out of the hole, and a short distance away before collapsing.
The stoic creature allowed the overseer to examine her right wing, and his heart sank. He found two compound breaks in the bones, one where the wing joined the body and one between the outer joint and the tip. But even worse, bone protruded through both wounds.
