Chapter 31

As Ruggum concentrated on the three humans below, a yellow flash startled him and a thunderous discharge shook the atmosphere.

    Struggling to control Alsinam, he saw Loana slanting earthward, one wing not moving.

    “Down,” he shouted. “Follow!” His raven dove in rapid pursuit. He wondered frantically whether Gilin was still aboard, and soon Loana struck the ground.

    Touching down next to her, the elder leapt off and saw open wounds in her right wing. She was in shock and barely moving.

    “Gilin,” he called. “Where are you?”
