“Stop!” cried Speckarin.
The startled child turned toward him and the silver vial tumbled to the ground. The lad froze as a delegation led by the foreign magician hastened toward him.
Reaching down, Speckarin picked up the vial and examined it. It was closed, but he gave the cap a turn, sealing the small container as tightly as he could.
“I gave this to Hut yesterday to take to the barwood grove,” he told Lidor. “If he did succeed before being overcome, it might contain the raw liquor.”
“We must take it to the fairinin,” said Lidor, “and open it with utmost precaution.”
“Where did you find it?” Speckarin asked the child.
