Major Kat Argo launched herself twenty feet into the air. Ina heard the strange mechanical sounds her legs made. They weren’t flesh and blood. Indeed, this soldier was a hybrid of machine and woman, and she meant business.

Ina dodged to one side as the soldier landed on the tarmac. Argo swung a backhand toward her, faster than any human had a right to, but Ina jerked her head out of the way and then took several blur-quick steps away to get out of the soldier’s range.

“You’re something else,” Argo said.

“You, as well,” said Ina. “I don’t want to hurt you, but I will.”
