Chelsea laid aside the book she was reading and went to answer the knock on the door. It was probably Josie. Chelsea checked her watch.
Nine o’clock. Right on schedule. Josie had developed the habit of wandering upstairs to check on her tenant every evening. When Josie wasn’t there, Dylan was.
Chelsea sighed with exasperation as she unlocked the door to let Josie in. She appreciated the concern, but all the attention was beginning to make her feel a bit stifled. She was not some fragile thing that needed to be protected and she definitely needed some space of her own on occasion, even under the circumstances.
“Hi, Honey! I brought you something.” She handed Chelsea a foil-wrapped paper plate, stacked with big sugar cookies.
“Oh, thanks Josie. These look good.”...
