her dinner and set her plate aside, pulling her legs up on the armchair as she pulled a throw blanket over her when she thought she heard the sound of car tires on the gravel driveway. Were they back so soon? She pushed the blanket aside and went to the window to look out. The evening had settled in darkly, but she could see outside fairly well with the interior lights off. She scanned the front of the house, but it was snowing heavily and piling up rapidly on the ground. She couldn’t see much though the thickly swirling snow.
