Halloween
The air was often crisp and the neighborhood most definitely filled with kids and haunted houses. Every single house was adorned with pumpkins and spider webs, some lit up with orange lights. The first American holiday my family truly embraced, there was never any question of whether or not we would dress up, at least as far back as I can remember. My first memories of Halloween were around third grade. I think my sister and I were both Native American girls, this was a few years pre-Disney's Pocahontas which did not come out until 1995.
My family had moved to a cute neighborhood filled with kids, almost all of whom I went to school with. Going door to door, crunching leaves under our feet, we saw everyone's parents handing out candy as our friends sometimes peaked out...
