“I’m okay, I guess,” the little girl said. “You really live in California?”

     “Yep. You know I do. I sent you stuff.”

     “How far is it?”

     “Pretty far.”

     “How long does it take to get there?”

     Jules had been unprepared for the intense line of questioning. The little boy listened and picked his runny nose.

     “If you drove it would take four days at least. If you fly, about five hours,” Jules said.

     “How come we never seen you before?”

     “Because it’s a long trip.”
