because there isn’t any other choice. Eventually she turns to High Moon and speaks under her breath. High Moon stiffens but gathers her things and brushes past me without making contact, flipping the door-hanging back and leaving without a word. The Waabishkaa behind me lets out a breath.

“Who is this?” Makes It Rain gestures toward Lucy, ignoring him for the moment.

“This is my sister.” I say simply.

Her eyes narrow and a hiss escapes her. “Why is this so? Is it not enough that Dances With Fire has come back again? Making messes wherever she goes and putting my son in danger yet again? You come here to ask me to help one of her blood? Knowing she has probably led your father, my son, off to die a traitor’s death?” Her chest heaves...
