"Hey sweetie! Can you hear me?”

No response from the girl. The woman pushes against me as she folds herself over the little girl, her wails growing louder and keener.

I shove her roughly away. “BACK!” I shout. And she falls back onto her knees raising her hands to the sky and continuing to wail.

B – breathing. I lean down but don’t feel any breath movement. I lean forward to place my mouth over the little cold blue mouth and nose. Two breaths and the chest moves up and down. I sit back and place my hands for chest compressions. Two pumps on the little sternum.

C – circulation. I feel for the carotid pulse and sigh in relief to feel it thumping away.

Two breaths in, two pumps.

Come on. Breathe!
