I stand looking down at Miles for a minute and consider dragging him off the arch, so that when he wakes up he won't be in danger of falling - but I decide against it. I turn in a complete circle trying to get my bearings. It's disorienting to be in such a familiar place that is lacking all of the familiar landmarks. The arch is much wider now with 200 less years of erosion - but the metal walkway I've always used is gone and the drop doesn't seem to be any less. If anything the shore of the lake is much closer now than in my time. I watch the waves for a moment, scanning the horizon, but I'm on the northeast side of the island and there isn't anything to see. The mainland will be to the southwest, and I really don't want to have to go there.
