The first thing I feel when I can feel my body again is the heat and radiating waves of pain as something hard and bony slams into my jaw. I stumble backwards, my hands tangling in a low bush behind me and shake my head, both to bring feeling back into my face and to regain normal vision.

Miles is walking toward me, fists clenched, and it doesn’t take a genius to read the look on his face. Years of martial arts training kick in and I tense for the attack. My instincts tell me to wait until he’s close – closer than I want him to be. I have no idea what kind of fighter he will be, and he’s already gotten one good blow. My best chance is to take him by surprise up close.
