 'Better. Because now there's you.' 

 'And then Robert went abroad?' I asked, striving for a note of normality.

 'Yes. He left straight after the funeral. He came here for a few visits but never for long. I must admit, after a while a never thought to see him living back here. I certainly never thought to see him marry!' 

 'You must be sorry you didn't see the wedding.'

 'Well, I am of course. But the wedding is only one day. I'll get to be part of the rest of your lives together.'
