'You know,' remarked Harry, as soon as his sister had rushed away, 'you really don't have to have them here, just because Louisa wants it.'

 'I cannot cut her off from all her friends.'

 'Good heavens, no! But if Louisa can't see that it will be excessively embarrassing for you to have Emma here for a visit, then I can!' 

 'I do feel a little worried about it,' I confessed. 'But I don't see why I should! I know she's supposed to be very like Caroline but, at the end of the day, she isn't her. And, as a family friend, Hardley must be used to seeing her often?'

 'Not lately,' he said. 'He's not seen her since Caroline's funeral, five years ago.'

 'Oh.'
