The next morning I had an opportunity to meet the Mr Govan of whom I had heard so much. After Louisa's unconscious revelation of the previous day, I was expecting something special of him. Imagine my disappointment when he proved to be an ungainly youth! He was very tall and reasonably broad, but this last was evidently a fairly recent thing and he carried himself as one still uncomfortable with it. I judged that he had not long made a transition from gangly-ness and was still awkward, even clumsy. His face was pleasant and good-humoured, but not handsome.
