Much to my relief, my tete-a-tete with my mother-in-law was interrupted then by the sound of a carriage. 

 I tutted. 'Who would be calling at this time of day?'

 'It's Harry!' cried Cecily, peering out of the window. She rushed away. I felt awkward about interrupting the family reunion, so I stayed put. I was not left alone for long, however. 

 'Don't you wish to meet you brother-in-law, m'dear? Harry will be most disappointed.'

 'Of course I wish to meet him. I simply thought that his family would prefer to greet him first.'

 'You are his family now. Or had you forgotten? There is no need to skulk in here.'

 'I am not skulking!'

 'You are. You must stop acting like a guest.'
