All in all, my parents visit left me exhausted. As soon as they left the room I sank down on the sofa. To my surprise, my husband sat down next to me. I glared at him. 
 'How dared you blame me for our elopement? It's outrageous!'
 He stretched his longlegs out comfortably in front of him and draped one arm over the back before replying. 
 'Well, it's much more plausible for it to have been your idea. Do you think your father would have believed that I'd always thought it would be romantic to elope?'
 'No,' I admitted. 'But you could have come up with some other story. I'm sure it wouldn't have taxed your powers of invention overly. Or, just possibly, you could have told him the truth.'
