'Not at all. Do you wish to ride tomorrow?'
'It's normally my custom, but I don't have a horse here.'
'If that's what you want then I will arrange it.'
I felt at a loss for a response and so said nothing.
'Well?'
'Well what, my lord?'
'Do you wish to ride tomorrow?' He was evidently striving for patience.
I thought about it. 'No,' I said at length. 'I'm still very tired from the long journey. The day after will be sufficiently soon.'
'I am glad we got that cleared up before I sent a footman round to fetch your horse at some unearthly hour,' he said with some acerbity. ...
