I woke up on the beach, my shoes gone, my clothes torn and no clue where I was, covered in sand. I turned my head and it hurt. I saw a jogger in the distance, and houses nearby. I wondered if I was dead, if I had woken up on the other side.

Was I dead? Everything ached. Cold and wet, I could hear roaring in my ears. All I wanted to do was sleep, and I did, until I felt someone put their hands on the back of my neck, and a sleeve being put on my arm.

“Do you know where you are?” a firm, deep voice asked me. I felt something cold on my chest, and tried to free myself. My shoulder hurt so much, and I was so thirsty.

“No,” I whispered.

“Do you know who you are?”
