Back when I was in High School I remember learning about Sisyphus. In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was punished by being forced to push a massive rock up the hill for the rest of eternity. It did not matter how much he physically exerted himself he was doomed to fail. There was no way that rock was going to get up that hill. Even though I didn’t necessarily think I was being punished, I did sometimes feel that efforts to try to gain forward momentum were an exercise in futility. Exercise in Futility – band name? BAND NAME!
By the time I was in my late 20s I was feeling restless and felt that something needed to give. I was rotting away in my environment. If I was truly doomed to roll the rock up the hill for the rest of my life, maybe I could at least engage in my futile attempt...
