“How do you know?”

“He breathed something into my nose. I couldn’t breathe.  The more I tried the more I suffocated until I passed out.”  

I remembered a sudden and painfully acute loss of air before I lost consciousness. I had been out for ten minutes, and according to Emily I had not breathed once.

“I don’t know how long I was out, but since I was still soaking wet I don’t think I’d been out of the water for very long.”

“So nearby, but somewhere surrounded by water so Emily cannot scry your location.” I answered the unvoiced question in her gaze. “What else?”
