questions. “If she just pulled your power, then maybe the bond is overriding Durabas’ warding spell. Can we do something to amplify it, or, I don’t know, pull on her energy?”

“Even if I knew how, it is too dangerous. Veronica needs all of her strengths to deal with whatever she is facing.”

“But there may be another way.” Komen motioned for us to bring the conversation into the interior upper living area.  

Without the railing to keep my fingers grounded, I paced the length of the living room. The space never seemed small until I counted the six striding steps it took to cover it from wall to wall. My body fluctuated between the utter exhaustion caused by Veronica’s pull on my energy, and a near uncontrollable frenzy.
