Blood blossomed in my mouth.

Ben grappled Sigmund’s arms and wrestled him back so the sucker punch to my jaw did not morph into a flurry of angry blows. I understood his frustrations more than he realized.

I leaned over the side of my boat and spat out the blood from where my teeth cut into my cheek.

“Get off me!” 

Sigmund shook Ben free, but regained enough composure to not make a play for me again. Of course that could have had more to do with the human blockade Ben and Carter created between us, than a fading need to throttle me.

“You have every right to be angry.” I waved off Komen’s offered handkerchief, in favor of running my tongue over my bottom lip.
