She reeked of sulfur and death.
Some odors the nose never grew accustom to smelling. I hoped demon funk made that list. Thoughts of finding the stench of rot, decay, and sewage commonplace, made me mentally gag, though the revulsion soon took a backseat to budding fears. Is this how I smelled to Lachlan?
I wanted to dismiss the notion but it refused to retreat to my subconscious. Before the subway, before he saved me, Lachlan mistook me for a demon. Since it couldn’t have been by my actions it had to have been from something else.
Standing shoulder to shoulder with Lachlan, I remained silent, while he handled the majority of the negotiation. I forced my attention back to the topic at hand. Gradu spent most of her time casting devious glares in my direction.
