I rose the same time as Veronica. I needed to talk to her, or maybe I just wanted to avoid talking to Emily. For the last ten minutes her eyes bore a hole into the side of my head, but Sigmund beat me to the punch with his cousin.

“I want to talk to you.” He demanded.

“About?”

“The Bears super bowl chances this year. What do you think?”

“Sarcasm is not a good look for you.”

“And death isn’t a good look for you.” He countered.

Their conversation continued with their movements into the bullpen. Emily made sure my focus got directed elsewhere.
