I pushed back into the cushion of the couch under the weight of Komen’s stare, and wished I activated the filter from brain to mouth.

“I meant no disrespect.”

“Nor was there any taken. You simply pointed out a scenario I had not considered.” He drank his scotch and continued. “Now where was I? Oh yes. Witches. Witches are half-blood descendants that have the ability to tap into the power of their mage ancestors. Most only ever master the alchemy of our abilities, which let’s be honest, is less a skill, and more possessing a grimoire and having the ability to follow a recipe. Some, however, are able to tap into true power and wield magic. Those are the dangerous ones.”
