I soothed a hand along Veronica’s spine. She stabilized herself by gripping the railing of the boat, and struggled with the surge of emotions. She clutched the railing so tight, I worried either it, or her fingers, would give way.
“This…” she muttered and shook her head. “No. This…”
“Veronica—”
“—what?” She snapped. “If you say everything is gonna be all right one more time, so help me God I will pitch you head first over the side of this boat. You want me to believe my mother was a demon?”
“Perhaps we can all use a drink.” Komen suggested.
