The call did not come as a surprise to me, but it caused guilt to surface. I had taken the demon’s arm in the fight, but the wound had not been mortal. I could have caught, and most likely killed the him, at the cost of Veronica’s life. She would have bled out before I made it back, and my ability to heal did not include the ability to resurrect the dead. My choice to save her life cost someone else theirs.
