crumbling walkway, warming her hands over a small fire. She let out a loud yawn as they approached, but when she turned and saw them coming her eyes flew wide open and she leapt to her feet. She stood at attention as Ada’ii took her place on the bench. Ada’ii sat facing the fire, and lifted a single hand in a gesture to T’shan.

T’shan looked from her to Nathaniel, her eyes puffy with sleep. She looked away for a moment, squinting as if trying to remember something. Then she looked at Nathaniel again, barely suppressing a second yawn, composed herself, and began:

“You have seen the Gateway. It was forged by Sura herself in days beyond memory. Whatever you saw is for you alone. You must let the experience find its place in your mind. You must let it find its own meaning.”
