“A crystal,” he thought. “Like the one the elders had in their hut. But they look like stars. It looks like they even match the night sky.”

Turning away, he found that his eyes had finally adjusted enough to see more than just the twinkling blue lights. The path he stood on descended into a wide-open cavern, walled on all sides by pale rock that bounded down like a series of frozen cascades toward the cavern floor.
