though the midday sun were beaming down, even though the full moon still hung in the dark sky above. Shopfronts all around the courtyard were instantly repaired and repainted with vibrant colours, while the tall grey gate turned a golden brown. The winds fell silent. The sound of the resonating bell hung in the air for a brief second, and as it faded it was replaced by a new sound.

“The Queen fought beside them,” came a feminine, melodic voice, “with no mind to flee. She fell with an arrow shot straight through her knee.”

Nathaniel looked around for the source. Just like the bell, however, the singing seemed to have come from nowhere. He dashed back around to the sisters, searching the now-light courtyard for signs of the dark spectres.
