A vague sound seemed to come from the far off distance, a single din from a huge bell.

From the edge of the veranda, Annyka looked out along the foggy street towards the source of the phantom sound, but finally dismissing it as just her imagination she looked back down at Ashidi where she stood at the foot of the stairs, looking out over the deserted yard and street.

“See?” Annyka said. “There’s no one here.”
