“You’re punishing me, aren’t you?” he thought as he found another foothold. “I was only praying. It’s not like I was doing magic.”

The wind lashed against him. He clung to the cliff-face, his knuckles turning white as his fingers dug tenaciously into their holdings. He looked down. Rain gushed past horizontally beneath his feet. As he focused on the ground, the distance sent a shock of fear through his senses. His eyes slammed closed.

“It’s not that far,” he told himself. “Just keep moving.”

He reached down, searching for a new hold. His hand found a ledge of dirt that felt too fragile to support his weight. He continued to search, but there was no other way down. He looked up, and rain as...
