The three of us are silent as we crunch down the dark road, the moon invisible above the ceiling of clouds. Luke pulls a small flashlight out of his pocket and trains it on the ground. The woods on either side of us are pitch black and even with two big strong guys on either side of me, the dark trees and forest noises are making me feel like I might wee.
No one says anything as we walk. Eventually the wooded path funnels us out onto a bigger street lined with houses and dimly glowing street lamps. Luke pulls up.
“My house is over there.” He gestures to the left with his thumb. “Follow this road to the right. You’ll know where you are soon.”
