Watching the film was an excruciating experience for Lori. There were many moments when she wanted to stand up and scream “MAKE IT STOP!” as one scene after another unfolded in front of her, depicting her character as a helpless and vapid girl with no sense of self or morality.

    No amount of money is worth embarrassing myself like this, she thought, as she watched a scene that showed the conflicted protagonist trying to find a bra at Victoria’s Secret, asking the clerk if they had anything that would “guarantee a man’s undivided attention”, and following that up with a monologue on the phone with a friend where she cried over what would happen to her if she didn’t have her boyfriend to keep her from returning to her “old ways”.
