*Story contains language typical of 1950’s era (and slang)

The thing about me is I’ve always been on the right side of the law. But the day I crossed to the other side, it wasn’t with a slow saunter, but rather a flying leap. Most people gradually build themselves up to a thing like that, but not me. I never run with the pack. I went all in, heart and soul, in the course of a single evening.

Oddly, I never had even seen as much as a parking ticket, was never caught truant in school, and never even saw the inside of the principal’s office. So, how does a person go from zero to 100 in a matter of moments? I must have had a wild streak lying dormant inside me all that time just waiting to erupt.
