The staff are all wonderful, Nonna says, and they seem so. But which of those wonderful people took the ring? Or was it a random stranger? No one knows, and now there’s a little less trust all around.

 

When Ruben gets out of the van the back of his head looks vulnerable, shaved close. When Isaac’s hair is that short she likes to run her hand over it, like a puppy’s fur. He will still let her do that, still lean into her caress.
