People love to talk about the tragedies of others. They are not horrible, they just want to feel… better about themselves. They like the idea that there’s someone out there worse than them. It makes them feel less painful about their situations. People don’t wish for tragedy to befall anyone, they genuinely pity its victims most of the times. This pity, in a way, gives them comfort about themselves and their situations. This is, at least, the case for most people. Those who have the empathy to know that it can also happen to them, and have the gratitude to appreciate their conditions.
