He came into the premises waving his hands high to the jubilation of kids. A nice car was usually hired for the dramatic entrance. He stood inside with his upper body outside through the roof window. Sometimes he sat on the roof of the car. The car approached the school gate with triumphant horns and kids were ordered out of their classes to give him a heroic welcome. The car was driven straight to the designated hall so he was not seen too much. This enhanced kids’ anticipation of meeting him. The whole day I was day-dreaming about how my encounter with him would be like. In the 90s, Santa Claus’s visit was one of the most joyous days in school for us. The man who came all the way from Rome bearing gifts.
