The door of the Taylor residence swung open, and Dennis walked in with Alice on his arm. The smell of meat and potatoes cooking in the kitchen was in the air.

   “Well, looky here,” Lewis Taylor, father of the Taylor family said, putting down his newspaper and standing to greet them.

   Dennis ushered Alice in. “Daddy, I'd like you to meet Miss Alice Shea,” he said.

   “Glad to meetya',” the ruddy, round-faced, five-foot six refinery worker said, as he stood and shook Alice's hand. “Dennis said you was purty, and that's the God's honest truth. C'mon in.  Have a seat,” he said, directing her to the couch where there was a toy army truck and some green army figures lying on...
