He looked at his watch. Not only had ‘his’ train been cancelled, but the next one was now ‘delayed’ at Hebden Bridge.

Wright looked at his watch again.

30 May. 30 days in which my life has changed; in which this village has changed; in which everything has changed. Nothing will ever be the same again.

‘Train services between Holme Hill and Hartley, Halifax, Bradford and Leeds and Rochdale and Manchester are currently suspended owing to a major incident’.

Gordon Wright joined in the collective groan. He could feel the joint despondency. It would be the bus to Hartley and then beyond.
