DCI May looked at his watch.

‘She normally brings our drinks in at 10.30 doesn’t she Viv?’

‘Yes sir, regular as the proverbial clockwork’.

May looked at his DS, wondering what she thought of the ambitious WPC.  He decided ‘not very much’; but then he had never really understood women and how they might envy each other, or not.

‘I still don’t understand why Halliday was killed, at least not as part of this sequence of murders’.
