The room stank of urine and tobacco. The yellowed paintwork bore testimony to the fact that the occupant had been a heavy smoker. DC Charlie Riggs looked round the bookshelves. He sighed as he read the titles: Christianity and World Order; Christian Unity; The Kingship of Christ; A Plain Account of Christian Perfection; The Holy Spirit and Power.    

‘Lots of light reading here, sir, eh?’

‘You should try some of it Charlie. It might do your soul some good – a dose of John Wesley or George Bell’.

‘You’ve read some of this stuff, then?’

‘I have indeed, DC Riggs – just about all of it at one time or another! Essential literature for when I trained to become a local preacher’.
