Mother would hate it; would hate them. But they’re ordinary people – real people - it’s a free country! If they want to live together, then fine! I think they rather liked me, as far as they like men. And I liked them. I even got to hold the baby! I WILL like them if I want to!

Gordon Wright had decided to walk the long route along the canal towpath to the railway station. He had been hesitant about taking the short cut since he had found ‘the body’. He had only seen one dead person before and that was his father, laid out in his Sunday best in an open coffin in the drawing room (as mother insisted on calling it). Gordon had never seen his father so relaxed.
